First commissioned by Sound & Music in 2022, is an exploration into the world of memory loss and cognitive impairment through music and film.

After a substantial period of research including work with Hull’s Butterflies Memory Loss Group ‘Fragments’ was created as a response to some of the key areas of work undertaken in those sessions. Gentle discussions with people living with various forms of cognitive impairment about key times and milestones in their lives yielded some interesting conversations and brought into question what are our key memories? And how many of these doe we share with other people?

A public call out gave us enough home recordings to create a soundtrack to people’s lives and the addition of chopped collected found footage enabled us to meld these fragmented bits together to present a series of key events that could easily form one person’s complete life memories.

Presented in a reconditioned photo booth adorned in 70’s colours ‘Fragments’ feels very intimate, like you’ve found a cosy corner somewhere with someone you know well, and now they’re telling you a secret.
